solianka - The Group

solianka aims to make public information from social movements in Russia and other ex-USSR countries availabe in Germany and to gain support for them. The group solianka consists of people with different social and political backgrounds, who share an interest in the region and its social movements.
We use the term "social movement" to refer to groups, initiatives and networks of individuals, who, within the struggle for a better social order for all, fight for their rights and interests. We don't, of course, cooperate with movements whose goal is the marginalization and oppression of groups or individuals.
We view the social movements in Eastern Europe as our political allies in the struggle against all forms of oppression, discrimination and exploitation. We see the attacks against social movements there as part of the attacks on emancipatory efforts worldwide. This is another reason why active solidarity with these movements is important to us.
To make informationen about social movements on the left in Eastern Europe accessible in German-speaking regions, we maintin the website www.solianka.org. The group also takes part in solidarity actions and activities offline. We can be contacted for events and seminars on the topic "social movements in the post-Soviet regrion".  We like to help - through our contacts and within our limited possibilities – in your search for contacts and information.

www.solianka.org as Forum

Information about activities of and debates within social movements in the post-Soviet region are available in German to a limited extent only. As well, there is little and isolated networking being done between social movements of Eastern and Western Europe. In part this is due to obstacles like visa requirements, language barriers and very different day-to-day realities.
Thus the social struggles that occcur in these countries frequently remain unnoticed here. When repression or political terror then strikes against the activists, crucial context is lacking.
Through the site www.solianka.org we want to make informationen accessible und spread it. We also want to facilitate networking and contribute to an infrastructure through which the concerns of social movements in Russia and other countries of the region can be supported and through which movements can mobilise against repression and the "decentralised" violence against activists, migrants and others.
We are aware that the possibilities to intervene from within Germany are limited. Preoccupation with this topic in Germany, in part, raises different questions than in Russia – the role of German/European/Western politicians, economic advisors, corporations, situations of migrants/refugees, the discourse about Russia within Germany, to just name a few. www.solianka.org provides room to raise all these topics.
The articles on this site are written by us as well as by groups we cooperate with, and have in part been translated.

The condition being that the presented positions lie within the political scope of advocacy against  exploitatin, racism, sexism, nationalism, homophobia and other forms of marginalisation and oppression.
As the editorial group, we take on responsibility for the site. This includes that we reserve the right for ourselves to ensure, that the contents of the contributions conform to this principle.
